The American Lawyer editor Andrew Maloney recently published an article on the challenges associated with the trend towards large group hires in law firms. For his article he interviewed Sharon Scenna, a Senior Solutions Management Director at Intapp, how this practice can impact client experience.
In the article, Sharon says:
“If you’re picking up just one or two lateral partners, a firm might say, ‘How do we staff this work?’ And it doesn’t always get executed in the first few months. Whereas if you pick up an entire team, there’s less disruption for the client. I think there’s a lot of advantages to picking up groups and boutiques, rather than one or two lawyers. And then you also see better retention. If you pick up an entire group, there’s a higher chance they’ll be successful, and there won’t be as much attrition.”
